The Gate Hotel - formerley The Berengaria Restaurant - Menu
The Berengaria Liner - Built in Hamburg and launched on 23rd May 1912. 5 weeks after the Titanic Disaster and named "Imperator".
She was the largest Ship of her time. Taken over as a Troop Transport at the end of World War 1. Her maiden voyage under Cunard colours was New York to Southampton on 11th December 1919. On the 21st February 1920 her name was changed to the "Berengaria".
She set a new Atlantic record in 1935 New York to Southampton.On the 23rd March 1938 she was withdrawn from service. Marking the end of Cunards 1st Atlantic Queen she was sold for scrap for £108,000.00. The furniture and fittings were auctioned on 16th January 1939.
The panelling and fittings from the Berengaria Restaurant were bought and fitted into The Gate Hotel making a beautiful feature.
The restaurant seats 50 People and there is a good choice of Menus. Ann does a lovely mouthwatering range of Thai food, with over 70 dishes to choose from. For the traditional English Food, Richard Wilson, the resident English chef, has a good selection of Home Cooked Bar and Restaurant food ranging from sandwiches, and salads to Full Roast Dinner and steaks.
